屈原是战国时期楚国人，很有学问。他在楚王身边做官，一心想让自己的国家富强起来。昏君楚王却听信奸臣的话，把屈原削职流放。在流放中，屈原听说楚国的的都城被敌人占领，百姓遭难，悲愤至极。五月初五这一天，他来到汨罗江边，怀抱一块石头，纵身跳入汨罗江中。楚国的百姓听到屈原投江的消息，都十分悲痛。他们含着泪划着船赶来打捞屈原，还把粽子扔到江里喂鱼，希望鱼儿不要伤害屈原的身体。这就是五月端阳包粽子的来历。

龙舟竟渡

“咚咚咚，”从沿河边传来一阵阵锣鼓声，跑过去一看，原来是信江河里正在举行每年一度的龙舟赛，每艘船上坐着二、三十个人。他们穿着颜色一致的队服，红的、黄的、白的都有，还有的干脆光着膀子。大家动作一致，船桨上下挥动，激起阵阵浪花，船尾鼓手拼命击鼓，两岸观众呐喊助阵，那场面异常热闹。

据史料记载，我们家乡龙舟赛前船员们先做龙头的。龙头做好以后由船员们抬着挨家挨户暮集一些钱，人们会把大门敞开，用清水浇洒龙头，乞求今年能风调雨顺，人丁兴旺。端午节午饭后正式开赛，在船头放一只鸭子，哪只船先抓住鸭子就算获胜。

卦艾叶菖蒲：在端午节，家家都以菖蒲、艾叶、榴花、蒜头、龙船花，制成人形称为艾人。将艾叶悬于堂中，剪为虎形或剪为小虎，贴以艾叶，妇人争相佩带，以僻邪驱瘴。用菖蒲作剑，插于门楣，有驱鬼祛贵之神效。

赛龙舟：当时楚人因舍不得贤臣屈原死去，于是有许多人划船追赶拯救。他们争先恐后，追至洞庭湖时不见踪迹，是为龙舟竞渡之起源，后每年五月五日划龙舟以纪念之。借划龙舟驱散江中之鱼，以免鱼吃掉屈原的尸体。竞渡之习，盛行于吴、越楚。清乾隆二十九年台湾开始有龙舟竞渡，当时台湾知府蒋元君曾在台南市法华寺半月池主持友谊赛。现在台湾每年五月五日都举行龙舟竞赛。香港有竞渡，近来英国人也有仿效中国人的做法，组织鬼佬队，进行竞赛活动。

吃粽子：荆楚之人，在五月五日煮糯米饭或蒸粽糕投入江中，以祭祀屈原，为恐鱼吃掉，故用竹筒盛装糯米饭掷下，以后渐用粽叶包米代替竹筒。

饮雄黄酒：此种习俗，在长江流域地区的人家很盛行。

游百病：此种习俗，盛行于贵州地区的端午节。

佩香囊：端午节小孩佩香囊，不但有避邪驱瘟之意，而且有襟头点缀之风。香囊内有朱砂、雄黄、香药，外包以丝布，清香四溢，再以五色丝线弦扣成索，作各种不同形状，结成一串，形形色色，玲珑夺目。

我的家乡在太谷，家乡的端午节从农历四月二十八日就拉开序幕了。

四月二十八日，是太谷城的庙会，又叫“粽叶会”。这次庙会的主打商品就是粽叶、枣、糯米这些包粽子的材料。庙会上大车小辆拉的全是粽叶，所以这天街上飘的全是粽叶味。

端午节前夕，太奶奶、太姥姥这些老人的主要工作就是给小孩子们做香囊。用各色的布料做成“心形”、“三角形”、“元宝形”的样子，里面装上五谷杂粮、艾草、中草药材等，然后用五色线给孩子们拴在手上，挂在衣服上。妈妈说，那可以避瘟疫，所以，端午节前后孩子们身上也散发着一种淡淡的艾草味。

端午节前夕，街上会出现许多小地摊，主要卖各种剪纸，有“剪刀”、有“叼着小虫的鸡”、有“牛” ……红红的剪纸衬上黄黄的底子，显得格外抢眼。说是贴在门口可以消灾避祸。

端午节前夕，街上也会出现卖艾草的小商贩。但更多的是亲朋好友在农村或其他地方采上的相互送。他们把艾草插在大门口、放在电梯里、挂在楼梯扶手上、立在房门后、站在房门上。据电脑博士说这些艾草也能避邪。所以，一进门就能闻见一股艾草味，真爽。
