Eastern Orthodox Churches, which use the Julian Calendar to determine feast days, celebrate on January 7 by the Gregorian Calendar. Both dates are merely traditional and neither is thought to be the actual birthdate of Jesus. Christs birth, or nativity, is said to fulfill Old Testament prophecies concerning the coming of a messiah, or savior.

The word Christmas is derived Middle English Christemasse and from Old English Cristes m?sse.[1] It is a contraction meaning "Christs mass". The name of the holiday is often shortened to Xmas because Roman letter "X" resembles the Greek letter (chi), an abbreviation for Christ .

In Western countries, Christmas has become the most economically significant holiday of the year. The popularity of Christmas can be traced in part to its status as a winter festival. Many cultures have their most important holiday in winter because there is less agricultural work to do at this time. Examples of winter festivals that are believed by some to have influenced Christmas include the pre-Christian festivals of Yule and Saturnalia.

In Western culture, the holiday is characterized by the exchange of gifts among friends and family members, some of the gifts being attributed to Santa Claus (also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, and Father Frost). However, various local and regional Christmas traditions are still practiced, despite the widespread influence of American, British and Australian Christmas motifs disseminated by film, popular literature, television, and other media.

December 25th is Christmas day, my mother told me: Christmas is not a traditional Chinese festival, it is a festival in western countries the biggest, equivalent to the Spring Festival of our country.

Now our country Christmas is very grand. A few days before Christmas, go into the street, every corner lets a person feel the atmosphere of the festival. Most of the merchants, shopping malls with a Christmas tree and with a charming smile form to Santa Claus, some on the door, and some in the hall. The Christmas tree is tower, wearing a green dress, slow little taco bell, as long as gently touched, jingle, make beautiful sounds, all sorts of color of small lights like the stars in the sky blink of an eye, and as a small colorful lanterns, flash, beautiful!

Many merchants in order to attract customers eye, in a transparent glass door spew out all kinds of Christmas gifts of graphics, some direct hit "celebrate Christmas promotion" of all kinds of benefits of advertising. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, I hope every children want presents can have a big surprise, of course I was no exception.

12月25日是圣诞节，妈妈告诉我：圣诞节不是中国传统的节日，它是西方国家一年中最盛大的一个节日，相当于我们国家的春节。

现在我们国家的圣诞节很隆重。圣诞节前几天，走到大街上，每个角落都让人感受到过节的气氛。大多数的商家、商场都摆着圣诞树和面带笑容形态可掬的圣诞老人，有的放在门口，有的摆在大厅。圣诞树呈塔形，穿着一件绿衣裳，身上挂慢了一个个小铃铛，只要轻轻一碰，叮当、叮当发出动听的声音，各种颜色的小灯好像天上眨眼的星星，又像五颜六色的小灯笼，一闪一闪的，美丽极了!

好多商家为了吸引顾客的眼睛，在透明的玻璃门上喷出各种圣诞礼物的图形，有的直接打出“庆圣诞大促销”的各种让利广告。明天就是平安夜，希望每个想得到礼物的小朋友都能有个特大的惊喜，当然我也不例外。

There are many festivals in a year. There are Chinese traditional festivals, which belong to our festival - childrens day, may, eleven, and other legal holidays. But what I like most is not the holidays, but Christmas.

Christmas is a festival for all the Christian countries in the world to commemorate the birth of the Lord of the Lord. Although it is not valued by the Chinese, we can still see the changes that Christmas brings to life. First of all, some businesses began to sell Christmas products. Shops were full of Christmas related products: reindeer, Santa Claus toys! They became popular products and loved by consumers. 寒假里，妈妈让我教弟弟学英语。这可真是一件苦差事呀!因为弟弟英语不太好,他平常又不用功。

那天中午，我开始教弟弟学英语了。我说：“Glad to see you。”弟弟却说：“Glag to she you。”我听了很生气，说:“不是‘Glag’,‘Glad’，另外不是‘she’，是‘see’。”弟弟虽然把“Glad”改过来了，可是“see”仍是改不过来。我说“see”，他呢，偏偏说“she”，好像成心气我似的。我让他看着我的嘴，看看我是怎么发音。他看了一会儿，改了过来。可是过了一会儿，又读成“she”了。我说：“不是读‘she’，而是‘see’,把舌尖稍微翘一点，舌头的两边放到牙齿的两侧，牙齿的中间留一点空隙，开始发音，就发出‘see’了。”

弟听了，似乎明白了，好不容易发出了“see”。过了一会儿，我又指出“see”让弟弟读，弟弟读出了“see”，我高兴的说：“弟弟终于改过来了，这可真是太好了！”

又叫了一会儿，弟弟不耐烦了，吵着说不学了。我灵机一动：要不学着英语老师那样，一边讲，一边做游戏。于是，我就把我的想法说给弟弟听，弟弟拍手赞成。顿时，他想变了一个人，一下子有了精神。经过半个小时的努力，弟弟不仅把课文读会了，而且还背会了呢！

通过这件事，我明白了：当老师是多么不容易，我们应该懂得老师的良苦用心，老师说什么，我们做什么，做一个听话的好孩子。
