The Value of Reading Books

People often say that gold and silver are the most valuable things in the world.ButI don‘t think so. In my opinion, to read books is more valuable than anything else.

The old saying "To open a book is always helpful" clearly tells us how good it is to read a book.

Books are our friends. They introduce us different kinds of knowledge. They lead us down the road to success.

Books are our teachers. They teach us troth, science, literature, and philosophy of life. Besides, they increase our knowledge, enlarge our experience,strengthen our character and do many other things which we can not do without them.

Books tell us what is good and what is evil. And only books can tell the good from the bad.

Therefore to read more books is the best policy for our young students.

读书的价值

人们常说金子和银子是世界上最有价值的东西，但我不这样认为。在我看来，读书比任何其他事情更有价值。

“开卷有益”清楚地告诉了我们读书有多好。

书是我们的朋友。它们向我们介绍不同种类的知识，它指导我们沿着成功之路前行。

The other week I had a bitter quarrel with one of my roommates. Six of us live in small room about eight square meters, desperate for more space.

Weeks ago, one of my roommates brought in a very large suitcase and placed it under her bed, but days later she (he) found something wrong with her (his) suitcase. As we live on the ground floor, her case soon got wet. She took it out and, after drying it up, she/he just put it on her desk because she had no other choices. I happened to be opposite her desk and her suitcase was so large that it not only occupied the whole of her desk but half of mine as well. I was very much annoyed, so I angrily pushed it forward without first talking to her about it. I pushed a bit too hard and the case fell off her desk, messing up everything it contained. On seeing this, she flew into a temper and angrily shouted at me. The quarrel started and lasted about two hours.

When I calmed down days later, I thought over the quarrel and began to see something. I should have talked to her about it first and then worked with her to find a solution to the problem. Living in a room with limited space, we should learn to get on well with one another.

Nowaday, The number of the traffic accidents has been growing in recent years. In 2004, up to 570,000 road accidents occurred in China, which claimed a total of 109,000 lives. The situation got worse in 2008. Statistics show that merely from January to October saw 566,000 tragedies happen with a higher death rate.

The above aching fact reminds us that it s high time we faced and solves this problem! Though our country owns only 2% of the world cars, it contributes amazingly 22% to the total accidents! Doubtlessly, our country ranks first as the most serious traffic accident rate.

China cannot afford millions of life losses, and we can not let the sorrow slow down our development speed. The government must play the most important role in solve the problem. Strict traffic rules should be made, and more importantly, practiced and followed. According to some other countries experience, high fine may also help. Slow down the speed of cars, as well as our country, there are always something worth your attention.
