Based on historical documents, modern survey and statistics, as well as the result of predecessor studies, the trend and main process of forest dynamics are recognized. The forest area and forest coverage rates for each province of China from 1700 to 1949 are es- timated backward by every 50 years. Linking the result with modern National Forest Inventory data, the spatial-temporal dynamics of Chinese forest in recent 300 years (AD 1700–1998) is quantitatively analyzed. The study shows that in recent 300 years, the forest area in current territory of China has declined by 0.95×108 hm2 (or 9.2% of the coverage rate) in total, with a trend of decrease and recovery. Before the 1960s, there was a trend of accelerated de- scending. The forest area was reduced by 1.66×108 hm2 (or 17% of the coverage rate) in 260 years. While after the 1960s, there has been a rapid increase. The forest area increased by 0.7×108 hm2 (or 8% of the coverage rate) in 40 years. The study also shows that there is a significant spatial difference in the dynamics of forest. The amplitudes of increasing and de- creasing in western China are both smaller than the ones in eastern China. During the rapid declining period from 1700 to 1949, the most serious decrease appeared in the Northeast, the Southwest and the Southeast, where the coverage rate in most provinces dropped over 20%. In Heilongjiang Province, the coverage rate dropped by 50%. In Jilin Province, it dropped by 36%. In Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality, it dropped by 42%. 饭后，我走出大门，看见刚才还在吃晚餐的几个大男孩在马路上玩起了橄榄球，他们每个人腰上绑了一根黄腰带，只要把这根黄腰带拉下来就算赢了，这些叔侄在一起你争我夺好不热闹。后院里也传出了欢呼声，我走进后院，原来是后院放了一张乒乓桌，那些小孩子在玩乒乓球。看见我走过去，十岁的斯蒂夫非常绅士礼貌的把乒乓球板递给我，让我和他们一起玩，我开始和这些孩子们玩起乒乓球来。那些孩子都围了过来，看着我的乒乓球艺，几乎目瞪口呆，其实我的乒乓球艺只是最最大众化的水平，几乎在学校玩过乒乓球的人都有这样的球艺，但是这些美国孩子可没这么认为，他们一个劲的问我：你是不是专业的?是不是专家?我告诉他们中国很多人可以玩到这个样子，很多小孩子都比我玩的好。但是这些孩子都不相信，他们互相议论着：看，她玩的就像电视上的比赛一样!她一定是专业的!接着他们就像看到了崇拜许久的明星来到他们中间一样围着我，不停的问很多问题，模仿我的挥拍动作。我让他们自己玩的时候，他们击出一球就看着我，希望我能给他们一个点评，或给他们一些指导。我不断地鼓励他们，这更让他们兴奋不已，就连一岁半的小阿顿也放弃了橄榄球要求和哥哥一起玩乒乓。我和这些孩子们一直玩到天黑，而他们对明星崇拜的态度也一直维持到我们离开。

今年的清明节伴着纷飞的细雨悄然到来了。清明节是来拜祭祖先的，今天我们一大家子人都赶去拜祭老外公、老外婆。一路上，我们被车流堵塞得喘不过气。播音阿姨用标准甜美的普通话不断地通知：“第一个清明假日，长沙市东南西北四个出城口全面双向堵塞！”

看来，大家都和我们一样在这个特殊的节日里踏上了清明感恩路。平日里一小时的车程，我们花了两个半小时才到达。老外公和老外婆葬在唐人公墓。我们一到达墓地，就看到了“车山车海”、“人流如织”、“满目鲜花”的壮观场面。

今年这个清明节，我们这个大家庭来了四代十九人，大家手捧鲜花和各种拜祭用品，来给我们的祖先请安。唐人公墓是长沙近郊的一处大公墓。这里景色怡人，山清水秀，翻过一个小山头，我们就来到了请安地。我注意到墓碑上写了几个熠熠生辉的大字，那是老外公老外婆的名字，以及出生、去世的时间。大家恭敬地将拜祭的鲜花和用品一一摆放好，燃放起鞭炮。在响亮的爆竹声中，四代人按辈份一一向老外公和老外婆叩头请安。老外公、老外婆似乎在天上望着我们这子子孙孙，好像都在微笑地望着我们，慈爱地抚摸着我们。最后，大家在陵园前合影留念。

长辈们都说“清明节就是中国的感恩节”，感恩之路要我们代代延续。“清明感恩路，路长情更长”。

Be grateful for friends

It is a celebrating day. I got in touch with Michael whom I have been losing contact for one year.

It is really magic. I was searching online aimlessly yesterday when an idea struck me suddenly: since Ben can find out my secret by keying in my name in the search engines, why cant I do so, either?

I intended to find out something about Ben in revenge in the first place, but soon extend my name list to a wider category. It was then that I recalled Michael suddenly.

We have lost contact since our last correspondence in my senior 3. He mentioned to me in his last letter that he was preparing for going to UK to further his education. I, shamefully, was too busy to reply his mail then. When I was recommended to ZJU and won the final freedom, I thought he had already been in UK so I had no idea where to write him.

I used to think that we would never meet again. However, when I browsed the entries about him, I found out excitedly that he is still in P.R.C.!!

Without a moment hesitation, I ran upstairs to my dorm and found out my old address book. Thank goodness, his home no was still there.

After 3 times calling with no answer replies, I eventually got him on the phone. He was more surprised than I could imagine that when I asked for his hp no he was too nervous to remember it.

Life is enjoyable in moments such like this. Old friends meet again surprisingly, on a road of their own ways to their dreams. They look at the face of each other, and recognize the old pal. It is such moment that makes me feel grateful to life: whenever I set off for a new destination, I see I have friends in the same direction, with whom I wont feel alone any more.
