自多了端午节假日，端午的“节”气立时浓了起来。这也让现时代的人们，体味到了旧时中国的传统意味。

农历五月初五，端午。在中国，流传至今的节日“四大名旦”，当属春节、中秋、清明和端午。而这四者中，端午名气相对最小，但它又是内容最为丰富的一个。自然，它的“中国味”也是最浓的。端午的习俗来源，最广的说法当属屈原投江忌日。人们为了纪念这位伟大的爱国诗人，在这一日，划龙舟，包粽子……而从历史渊源上讲，正是纪念屈原这一点，让端午变得丰富和更有价值。

农历五月五，本不是一个“好日子”。在国人的传统上，5月及5日，属“恶”月与“恶”日。因此，5月5日之端午，辟邪驱恶，成为端午的重要内容。

为什么选择5月5日作为“端午”？在时间上，5月初，正是“五毒”从冬日复苏，开始活跃，容易对人造成伤害的时节；而5月，则是气候多变，各种瘟疫最为流行的季节。这也是认为5月是“恶”月的一个原因吧。

是日，家家门前挂上菖蒲、艾草；孩子的额上，用雄黄画一个“王”字或一个点；或在孩子的手上，圈一个五色线。这都是在辟邪驱恶呢。

大约在50年前，如此习俗，无论是穷人还是富家，都会这样做。后来，明显少了许多。近些年，虽然传统越来越有回归的意思。但人们，大概很少想起要靠这些方式驱毒。它只是一个象征，是人们寄托美好的愿望的方式。

端午，最是忆江南。采一把芦叶，以长江的江草作线，严严地裹实粽米；深夜了，母亲升一台灶，火融融的；第二天清晨，孩儿醒来，整个屋充盈着芦叶的清香；镜前的自己已是一只虎——额上有一只大“王”；门前挂着长长的菖蒲、艾草，手腕绕一串五色彩线。而这个时节，正是啖黄鱼的好时机，再穷的人家，也会买一条两斤左右的大黄鱼。可惜，这样的大黄鱼，在市面上，已经有20年不可见了……

其中，最流行的是纪念屈原说。据说，公元前278年，秦军攻破楚国京都。屈原眼看自己的国家被侵略，含恨抱石头投汨罗江而死，屈原死后，楚国百姓哀痛异常，每年这一天纷纷涌到江边去凭吊屈原，所以在每年五月初五就有了赛龙舟、吃粽子、喝雄黄酒、悬艾草的风俗。其中赛龙舟最有特色，那争先恐后的激烈场面就像屈原强烈的爱国精神一样，几千年来一直激励着我们。
