Thousands of Worcester school children created World Smile Day® cards that were then delivered to area hospitals and nursing homes. The event became national and even international news.

In his inaugural address on that very first World Smile Day Harvey Ball laid the groundwork for that World Smile Day saying that the smiley face “…just reflects what is inside every one of us – a smile is what we want to see when we look at another human being.” He said, “Sometimes we forget that. Sometimes the world seems big and filled with problems that are too hard to understand much less solve. We start to believe that we are too small to make a difference. But that’s not true. The truth is that every one of us has the ability to make a difference every day.”

Harveys hometown of Worcester, MA has been and continues to be the epicenter for World Smile Day.

It is generally believed that there is a good supply of fresh water. But to our disappointment, the fact is just the opposite.

As we can see, the world population is growing rapidly day by day. So enough fresh water is needed to feed such a big population. What’s more, with the development of industry, factories and vehicles produce poisonous gases or wastes, which consequently results in the pollution of water. Though fresh, a good amount of it can no longer be used. Only quite limited fresh water resource is available to human beings. So it’s high time for us human beings to take quick action to protect water resource. Stop pollution and save water, otherwise, we cannot survive on the earth.

With fresh water, the world will be prosperous.

我小时候很胆小，也不自信，认为自己做什么事都做不好，总是想放弃，小朋友们都不想和我玩。

手工课时，我也不敢做，认为自己笨手笨脚，做不来，便一个人躲在角落。这时，一双手摆在我面前，我抬头看见一张清秀的脸，是老师，他和蔼地问：“你怎么不去做手工呢？”我小声又羞愧地说道：“我不会……”说完就低下了头。“没关系，我教你！”老师和颜悦色地说。

老师把材料拼接、剪开……做完后，转头问我：“会了吗？接下来该你了。”我小心翼翼地接过材料，双手都在抖，我抿了抿嘴唇，试着把材料拼接，“啪”没有成功，我不敢回头面对老师阴沉的脸色，或严厉的话语，只好说：“我不行。”

沉默良久，老师突然说道：“你真的不行吗？一切皆有可能，什么事情都要试一下，如果你试都不试就说自己不行，那你就真的不行了！”

我愣住了。我真的没有试过，总是对自己没有信心，从来都没有尝试过，我真的不行吗？我抬起头，对上他的目光，“加油，你可以的。”我鼓足勇气，一块、两块……成功了！我欣喜若狂，回头看着老师，老师笑了，向我竖起了大拇指。

从此，我不再胆小，我变得自信，你可以看见一个女孩，嘴角永远上扬，那是多么自信的笑容。

一句话真的可以改变一个人吗？我不知道，但我愿意相信，在你迷茫时，那几句话，会像熊熊的火焰，会像红红的太阳，照亮你的世界。

Every year on October 4th is the World Animal Day. It is proposed by the Italian monk St Francis in 12th century. He lives in the forests of Assisi Island for the long time, building a good relationship with the animals. So he asks people to express thanks to the animals on October 4th. He sets a good example for our human beings about how to deal with the relationship with animals. In order to memorize him and what he does, we make October, 4th to be World Animal Day. 我自幼酷爱读书。至今为止，什么四大名著，百家姓，三字经，唐诗宋词，诗经离骚，就算背也是绰绰有余。在读书这条无尽的银河中，我摘取了许多智慧，快乐的繁星，他们拨动着我的心弦，激荡着我跳动的书欲，让我一次又一次的坠入书海。每每看到一个精彩的情节，我便会不由自主的继续看到尾，就算把书翻烂了，也意犹未尽。它是促进我进取的一种动力!

读书让我明白很多前所未有的知识，也让我体会到一种莫名的感觉，他让我明白什么是虚怀若谷，什么事诚信谦和，让我明白人与人之间还有一种高境界。总而言之，三言两语说不清读书的好，道不明读书的乐。
