Hello ！welcome to the special Chinese new years edition of discovering China. Im Alina Li and Im Ben Hedges, and today well be taking you through some of the most important traditions of Chinese new year and historical background. We will look at some of the legends behind Chinese new year and how to celebrate it. Here in the US and Chinese across the world.

The Chinese have specific way to celebrate their new year. If you walk down the street in Chinatown during Chinese New Year, you see a variety of ancient traditions such as red banners, firecrackers and lion dance performances, streets are filled with lively celebration.

However, legend has said that the new year has not always been a time of festivity. An Asian Chinese story told a chilly start to this festive holiday, it begins with an ancient Chinese beast called Nian.

Every New Year Nian would rise from swelling in the sea to ravage Chinese village in livestock and hurting people. The villages soon found out from a wise gray-haired old man that the only way to scare the beast away was to set off firecrackers and light lamps and to hang red banners on each door. As the story goes, this was the beginning of a tradition that would last thousands of years.

So this story leads to the creation of many of other traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year. lets take a look at some of these traditions.

Let me introduce myself first. My name is LiShuai, and my English name is MONO Chen. Ive finished my undergraduate education in ZhongShan University, Majoring in Electronic Science and Technology.

I am an open-minded and smart boy/girl with broad interests, like playing basketball, reading, especially in engineering such as software programming, website designing as well as hardware designing. Broad interest does not make me perfect in each specific area due to the insufficient knowledge and practice, so I think further study is definitely important for me to realize self-value.

The major I expected is IC design. I found that integrated circuits plays a more and more important role in modern society. For example, with the recognition by the government, the domestic integrated circuits industry is growing rapidly and that may provide a great amount of chances for us.

I plan to focus my research in this field in the graduate time. And I hope I can have a systematic view of micro electronics and IC design technology and making a solid foundation for future profession after three years study here.

it was a sun day of the summer holiday. the weather was hot. my little brother and i decided to go to the resrvoir to swim by bike. it took us half an hour when we got there, many people were swimming. the we dived into the water……

这套房子外型十分普通，是一个大大的正方形，呈淡紫色。房子分为三层，第一层是客厅和客房，第二层是卧室和卫生间，第三层是厨房、餐厅还有书房。

在这套房子里还安装有水控中央空调，为什么叫“水控”呢？因为它是利用平常收集的雨水通过一个“循环转换”装置将水转换成电能将空调启动的，这样不仅大大的节约了能源，还能使空气不再干燥。这台空调还是按照春夏秋冬四个季节自动调节温度的。初春时，暖暖的温度会让人提前感受春天，让人心旷神怡；酷夏时，凉爽的温度让人无比舒适；秋凉时，暖风中带着果香，让人十分轻松；严冬时，家里总是适宜得让人忘记窗外的寒风。住在这样的房子里，我惬意极了。
