Because of the fiction movie 2012 which describes a horrible scene that the whole world was destroyed by earthquake, volcano and tsunami, the view of doomsday is making a great clamor. Mayans predicted December 21, 2012 is the end of the world and the sun of 22th will never rise again.

Though it is now seems that this prediction is just a nonsense without any scientific support, it did provoke peoples thinking about environment. In awake of the prediction, we cant help asking why this horrible prediction happen? I think one answer may be related to the environmental degradation. As we all can see and feel, the worlds environment is going downhill with severely polluted rivers and airs. More often we cant see clearly the sun because of heavy air suspended matter caused by pollution. If continues going this way, I think the doomed day will come true if not now, then one day.

Protection of the Environment Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited. Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources,and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive. We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet,with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught.We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear. Yet, we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees. We see that if rivers are polluted with waste products, we will die. Yet, waste products arestill put into rivers. We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there wont be enough food.What can we do to solve these problems? Today, as the development of the technology, people live a much better life than before, the average wage is promoted highly. The economy develops at the cost of polluting the environment, we can see the pollution everywhere, like the river water is dirty, the situation is so serious that we must take some action to control the environmental pollution. First, we should not throw away the rubbish, whenever we have rubbish at hand, we should keep the habit to throw it into the dustbin, sometimes the garbage can be recycled.
