The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingways most enduring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a great part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.

I first read this book when I was in my fifteens. And now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday.

I was experiencing the feeling of paradox after reading the book. I felt my eyes wet when I read his stories, about how Mr. Jobs was able to overcome the challenges in life. Thoughts or reflections on reading Wuthering Heights

Wuthering Heights was written by Emily Bronte, it published in 1847.But at that time, it seemed to hold little promise, selling very poorly and receiving only a few mixed reviews. I found this in our school library, I chose this book because the title attracted me. Wuthering Heights is structured around two parallel love stories, the first half of the novel centering on the love between Catherine and Heathcliff, while the less dramatic second half features the developing love between young Catherine and Hareton. In contrast to the first, the latter tale ends happily, restoring peace and order to Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. In the story, the two houses, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, represent opposing worlds and values.

I spent twenty days reading this book. After reading this book, I felt for Heathcliff at first. Heathcliff begins his life as a homeless orphan on the streets of Liverpool, and then he tyrannized by Hindley Earnshaw. But he becomes a villain when he acquires power and returns to Wuthering Heights with money and the trappings of a gentleman. His malevolence proves so great and long—lasting. As he himself points out, his abuse of Isabella—his wife is purely sadistic, as he amuses himself by seeing how much abuse she can take and still come cringing back for more.

Catherine represents wild nature, in both her high, lively spirits and her occasional cruelty. She loves Heathcliff so intensely that she claims they are the same person. However, her actions are driven in part by her social ambitions, which initially are awakened during her first stay at the Lintons, and which eventually compel her to marry Edgar. Catherine is free—spirited, beautiful, spoiled, and often arrogant, she is given to fits of temper, and she is torn between her both of the men who love her. The location of her coffin symbolizes the conflict that tears apart her short life. She is buried in a corner of the Kirkyard. In contrast to Catherine, Isabella Linton—Catherine’s sister—in—law represents culture and civilization, both in her refinement and in her weakness. Ultimately, she ruins her life by falling in love with Heathcliff. He never returns her feelings and treats her as a meretool in his quest for revenge on the Linton family.

Just as Isabella Linton serves as Catherine’s foil, Edgar Linton serves as Heathcliff’s. Edgar grows into a tender, constant, but cowardly man. He is almost the ideal gentleman. However, this full assortment of gentlemanly characteristics, along with his civilized virtues, proves useless in Edgar’s clashes with his foil. The author Emily Bronte lived an eccentric, closely guarded life. I have got a lot of interesting scientific knowledge from the books of National Geographic Reading Expeditions, some of which are about life, physics. I really can’t help losing myself in the colorful pictures and clear words in the books. After reading the books, I have been considering a question: What if we lived without science? Great changes have taken place in the world with the help of science. In the past, life was nasty, brutish and short. It is hard to imagine how our forefathers could do without so many conveniences that modern science brings about. Back then, only a small group of people enjoyed the very few comforts. But the majority of people didn’t even have sufficient food, let along their privilege to be educated. Anyway, it is science that changes the world and makes people’s life better and better, although it also leads to some bad aspects at the same time.

From the discovery of the gravity to the first step on the moon, we human beings have experienced a long process of developing science. And now, this process is still continuing much faster. New organisms are already being engineered, and new genetically modified crops promise benefits from higher yields and less use of harmful chemicals and so on. A lot of examples are showing this point. In the future, changes are likely to be even much greater as science reaches out to shape life itself. Maybe one day, the possibility that life existed on Mars billions of years ago will be potentially one of the greatest discoveries of our time. It is the force of the competition, we human beings’ inquiring mind and initiative that bring about the non-stopped development of science. Therefore, it is difficult and impossible to prevent science from changing the world and our life as well.

At present, we are in two minds about science. On the one hand, we are enjoying the sweet life as a result of the evelopment of science, and expect it to continue. And we are showing our interests into some scientific expeditions, such as the astronomy, the alien civilization, etc. On the other hand, we are distrustful of it, due to the lack of understanding of science. Some people thus far are still very superstitious, and they would even believe in superstitions rather than believe in science.

I have recently read Battle Hymn of Tiger Mother published by The Penguin Press in 2011. This autobiography was written by the Chinese American woman Amy Chua, a tenured professor in Yale Law School. She causes a sensation because her strict but unique parenting which brings excellent performance of her two daughters.

This autobiography tells the course of Amy Chua how she raised the two daughters in Chinese parenting way. It is divided into three parts. At the first part, it gives some introductions of the two daughters, the family. And in the second and third parts, the writer tells more details in the process of raising her two different daughters and the difficulties she was confronted in the process, and most importantly the success the daughters achieved in music which brought Amy Chua pride as well as the whole family.

To some extent, I don’t like Amy’s parenting in some aspects. In my opinion, she deprived the nature of children and pushed too much pressure on their children, especially on Lulu who was under the shadow of her excellent elder daughter—Sophia. While I was reading the third part in the rebellion part, I couldn’t control my own emotion, I felt what Lulu felt and even hated against her selfish and autocratic mother. I couldn’t understand why Amy didn’t let Lulu get up from sit, for water, not even to go to the bathroom when Lulu just wanted a rest during the long hours’ practice of violin. She made Lulu practice violin all day during the family’s vacation abroad. She spoiled the vacation by letting the other family members waiting the practice. She was unreasonable.

But next what I do is to admire her.

There is an old Chinese saying “property can never last for three generations”。 But Amy Chua did change it! Her parents came to U.S and suffered a tough life at the very beginning. They taught Amy math and piano in an extreme strict way when she was a kid. Under the influence of her parents, now Amy is frugal and pretty strict with her daughters and herself. They are the valuable points of her. Although she is so extreme on her parenting, she has the advisable ideas that the parents and the parents to be to learn.

Firstly, as parents, they couldn’t ignore their children and put all focus on their job. There is no excuse for not concerning their children. Except supervising her daughters, Amy Chua has to give lessons in university, write books and handle the family chores. She is so busy, but she doesn’t ignore the daughters.

Secondly, parents should be strict with their children especially when they are kids because kids lack of self-control. They should not indulge their children in internet or sleepovers.

Thirdly, parents should master some skills in parenting. As a matter of fact, there are so many Chinese parents who are strict with their children with no avail of success. Success can’t be totally copied, because some parents ignore the skills in parenting. When their children don’t follow their will or perform well enough to satisfy them, they will lose their temper and even beat their children, yes, of course, Amy Chua will be mad but she won’t beat her daughters, in this condition, she will be sober and wait until her daughters perform well enough. She learnt some music knowledge in her children’s class and supervised them patiently. She knew where to correct the mistakes and gave the children extraordinary success.

Tiger mother aroused a big heat in parenting and threw such an important issue for us to think about. Battle Hymn of Tiger Mother gives us really some enlightenment. Anyway, that’s a really unique experience in reading this book.

父母、老师常常教育我们：一寸光阴一寸金，寸金难买寸光阴。自从我读了美国盲聋女作家、教育家海伦。凯勒写的《假如给我三天光明》，我才更明白这句话的含义。

《假如给我三天光明》这本书写了海伦对光明那热切的渴望和对人生的感慨，让读过这本书的人和她一起分享海伦人生中的酸甜苦辣。书字里行间，无不洋溢海伦·凯勒对生活的热爱，她用热情的态度劝戒世人应该珍惜享有的一切。她希望拥有三天的光明去看尽世界的一切景观。海伦·凯勒想看的事物实在是太多太多了，然而这只不过是一个梦。

"要是人把活着的每一天都当成最后一天该有多好啊，那就更能显示出生命的价值，然而人利用时间和享受时间却是有限的"如果每个人都可以充分利用每一天的话，那这将会是一件多么令人高兴的事情啊!三天光明，对于常人来说只是人生中的短暂的一刻。对于双目失明的海伦来说，却是可想而不可及的。三天光明，对于那些碌碌无为的人，无非是在漫无目的地游玩着，他们追求的生活还不如那些乞丐，至少还知道去要饭。而目前青少年学生中也有这么一些人，拥有舒适的生活环境，良好的学习条件。但他们不是去珍惜自己拥有的一切，而是吃不得半点苦，把学习当成一大苦差，无心向学。对于学习，他们总是不屑一顾，不是以积极的态度去勤奋学习，努力拼搏，而是哀叹命运对于自己的不公，责怨上天没有赋予他们聪颖的天资、超人的智慧，让他们能一举成名天下知。现在的社会是靠知识才能生存的社会，没有知识的人是不可能在社会上有一席之地。如果我们可以好好学习，让学问把大脑给占据的话，就可以为以后的道路铺上一层石头了!

海伦·凯勒双木失明，她还能用自己的残疾的身躯写出《假如给我三天光明》这样闻名于世的书。而我们拥有的健康的身体，明亮的眼睛，又有什么理由不去奋斗，不去创造自己的美好人生呢?

Bunyan once in his book named Pilgrim’s Process described a place named ‘Vanity Fair’ where all kinds of vanity are sold, such as houses, lands, honors, preferments, titles,lusts, pleasures and delights of all sorts. As a matter of fact, we are living in such place today. We gradually become the participants of this fair and loyal followers of these hollow things. Espencially our modern grils’ changing view toward marriage, money and social status. They believe that they could easily live a life like a grand lady without making any efforts if they marry a wealthy man. As female college students, how to stick to our own belief and aviod being assimilated by the complex society, Thackeray’s novel Vanity Fair could give us a good instruction. Through the Rebacca’s attitude towards money, social status and marriage, I realize what is most important thing for a female.

Thackeray described the life of ruling classes of England in the early decades of the 19th century, and attacked the social relationship of bourgeois world by satirizing the individuals in the different strata of the upper society. Rebacca（becky） Sharp is a classic example of the money-grubbing instinct. Her only aspiration in life is to gain wealth and position by any means. Thackeray does not regard Rebacca as an exception. Everyone wishes to gain something in the Vanity Fair and acts almost in the same manner as Rebacca.

As an orphan, Rebacca’s birth can easily win our tears. It is an undenible fact that she is quite an ambitious and clever girl. As far as I am concerned, she could easily live a decent life with her own hand. However, because of the society and the innate deficits in her characteristics, she becomes very sophisticate and even tried to suduce her best friend’s brother so that she could win her place in the upper society and other’s admiration. However, for the people in the upper class, Rebacca’s humble birth cuold never be erased even though she married a rich man. In other’s eye, she was just a coquette who was quite good at suducing rich men. Why not use your own hand to create a bright future and win others’ true respect instead of relying on the man’s shoulder.

Rebacca liveed in a society which is ruled by money, everyone was crazy about money, Rebacca was no exception. She held the dream of living a life of a grand lady, wearing luxurious clothes and shining dimonds. In order to realize her dream, she used all kinds of immoral means to win the love of rich men. Finally, she got married with Rawdon Crawley, a good man who will inherit a large sum of money from her ant. However, the old lady refused because Crawley married Rebacca---a woman of low social status. Rebacca and her husband live a quite luxurious life in Pairs even though they could not make the both ends meet. Finally, Mr.Crawley was put in to prison because of heavy debets, while Rebacca started searching for another rich man who can pay for her luxurious bills. Rebacca betrayed her soul in the process of pursuiting money and gradually forgot the meaning of love.

Marriage is a holy thing in everyone’s life, but if you regard marriage as a good method of gaining money and improving your social status, you will suffer a lot from it. Although you live a decent life and gain other’s admiration,you may never be ture happy because you never know what is love and responsibilty. Rebacca’s marriage is a good example. She took a quite easy attitude towords marriage. Her marriage was just a method which helped her get in to the upper class and live a rich life. Ther is no wonder that she was so cruel to her husband and flirted with another rich man when her husband was in the prison. Here I want to mention another female----Amelia, a girl of simple mind. In Rebacca’s mind she was a fool. At first, she held the same view as Rebacca. Her husband’s death in the war made her become a sorrowful widow. Till one day Rebacca told her that her husband once asked Rebaccato run with him. Amelia was angry and married a man who has taken care of her for several years uncomplainly. Amelia is not a cold hearted women, although her dream of being a grand lady had vanished,but she experienced a life of being truly loved. While for Rebacca, she will forever lived in the Vanity Fair and never has the chance to experience this kind of love. In my eye , Amelia is wiser than her.

Rebacca is a tragic female during that period. Although this novel ended with a happy ending--- Rebacca got marriad with Amelia’s brother and inherited a large sum of money, liveed a grand lady’s life ---who dare to say that Rebacca will stop betraying her soul and keep away from Vanity Fair? I would like to give an advice to her and to the grils in our modern society: please keep always from Vanity, and take a correct attitude towards money, social status and marriage. Money is not every in our life. The improvement of our social status needs our own efforts instead of relying on others. Mrriage is a holly thing in our girls’ life, which requires our responsibility and loyalty. Or we will forever live in a hollow world and the dream of vanity will finally destory us.

Its simple plot relates the misfortunes of the loyal Christian slave, Tom, who, deprived of familial love and affection and destined for the harsh life of plantation slavery, doesn’t rebel or curse God, but philosophically accepts his cruel fate. He could leap overboard Cold River to save the drowning daughter of a wealthy white passenger who gratefully rewards the brave Negro by buying him.

Tom seems destined, now, to live out his life in a pleasant New Orleans mansion, spending his days reading Bible aloud and singing religious hymns with the angelic little Eva. But the child dies of tuberculosis, having first elicited a promise from her father to free the loyal Tom. The father is killed , however, in a brawl before he can fulfill his pledge and his widow is forced to sell Tom, who becomes the property of the heartless Simon Legree. He soon learns how really harsh the life of plantation can be, but he remains true to his religious training, elated by his pious acceptance of God’s will. Harassed by the evil Legree ,Tom displays his Christian charity by refusing to flog another slave .Simon Legree may not own Tom’s soul ,but he can do as he chooses with the body, and he orders two of his slaves, Sambo and Quimba, to whip the unresisting Tom, whose only responses to the merciless beating is a plea to stop in order that Legree might save his own soul.

On his deathbed, Tom charitably forgives the harsh Legree. Ironically, he lives long enough to witness the arrival of his former master’s son, come to redeem the family pledge by buying him back and granting his freedom.

The theme of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, for its all apparent simplicity, is representative of much of 19th century American fiction of the good man opposed by evil personified under the circumstance of slavery.

What strikes me is Tom’s loyalty to his religious belief. All of us has our own belief , it plays a most important part in our life, it supports us whenever we are caught in rough conditions ,it helps us get out of the dark to see the sunrise, it teach us how to adapt ourselves to different circumstances.

Life is full of ups and downs; we should hold our belief to fight against them to realize our goals!

今天我看了一部电影名字叫《背着爸爸上学》，我深受感触，跟石娃相比我的生活条件和学习条件都比石娃好多了，他在那么艰苦的环境下学习的那么好，他每天回来做完作业还要照护他瘫痪的父亲，还要干农活。最后他的化学在全国获得了一个奖，我非常敬佩他。

石娃的成功告诉我们，他的成果是靠努力得来的，不是来自偶然。爱迪生说过天才是有百分之一的聪明，和百分之九十九的汗水合成的。我们要学会跌倒了又站起来，不能受点挫折就不敢往前面走，我们一定要受很多大风大浪，跌倒了又站起来这才是强者的作风，经过很多次的跌倒，才可以走向成功。

有一次我看了一篇文章名字忘了，有3个人去爬山，第一个人看见了山那么高肯定爬不上去所以他放弃了，第2个人爬到半山腰说：还有那么远肯定爬不上去，也放弃了，可是第3个人一直很坚定，他很努力的爬，终于爬到了山上。有一次3个人在一起聊天，聊那次爬山的时候，第1个人说我很聪明我在山下面看山那么高很定爬不上去的，第2个人说我也很聪明，我爬到半山腰就不爬了。第3个人说但是你们看不到山上的美景了。这个故事说明，努力的人才会有好的结果。

对于我们来说我们要报答父母的养育之恩好好学习，将来要报答父母，为国增光。

This world is not perfect, difficulties, setbacks is visiting our regulars, sometimes even if we havent prepare for their preparation. Compared with the master Gongsun Shaoan, Sun Shaoping, obviously I was lucky, there are no hard living conditions, no major setbacks harsh, I think I have no reason to complain about what the world. Always to look life in the face, I want to do is only to meet: optimistic, strong face, live out their own wonderful.

寒假期间，我读了一本《神笔马良》的书，它是一本很好的书。

里面讲述的是：从前有一个孩子叫马良，他很喜欢画画，但家里穷，连一只笔也买不起，他想去画馆学画画，可是画师看不起他，就把他赶出了画馆。马良是个有志气的孩子，于是他每天都用枯枝在地上画画，日久天长，他画的鸟都差不多会飞了，他画的鱼都差不多会游了，但是他还是没有一只笔。有一天晚上，有个白胡须老人送了他一只神笔，这只神笔，画出来的东西会变成真的，这一消息被大财主知道了，财主就让马良画金元宝，马良不肯画，就把马良关起来了，最后马良还是逃脱了。到最后有个皇帝也知道了，马良知道他是个坏皇帝，便画了大海，大海中间有金山和银山，皇帝和大臣们去乘船拿时，一阵大风将船吹翻了，坏人们都淹死了。

读了这本书我觉得马良是个聪明，勇敢的孩子，他很有爱心，不畏强暴，值得我们去学习。

今天我闲着没事，从我的木制小书架上面拿了一本书来看，本想随便翻翻，不曾想却入了迷，这本书就是英国着名作家——斯蒂文森写的探险书籍《金银岛》。

它主要以一个孩子的口吻讲述了一个古老的探宝寻奇的冒险故事。故事里有许多危险的情形，例如：小吉姆和海盗在船上搏斗，还差点被刺死。船长、医生和乡绅和邪恶的海盗们枪战等等，看得我触目惊心。在整个故事情节的叙述中除了惊心动魄的血腥屠杀，还处处有爱心的不断闪现，比如大夫在和海盗为敌的情况下依然为海盗们治病，服刑者自己作为医生的神圣使命和职责，等等。

看完这本书，我的心还是久久不能平静，整个历险过程险象环生，但吉姆凭着自己的机智勇敢一次次逃离了险境。我可真佩服他!我多渴望也体验一下冒险的生活啊!记得有一次，我和朋友小婷突然心血来潮，想去银淀公寓-1层去探险，因为住在那里的朋友小珊说-1闹过鬼，半夜经过的人们有时会听见一阵古怪的笑声，半真半假的，于是我们鼓起勇气，约好放学后一起去那闹过鬼的-1层。谁知，一到那儿，却遇见了去买菜的老妈，她问我们去那干嘛?我回答说去探险，老妈一听便火了，大吼道：“你们胆子不小啊，小小年纪，天天去探险，走!跟我回家!”就这样，我硬是被妈妈强生生地拉回家了，回家还免不了一阵耳朵之苦，唉，我真想去探险，为人们解开那些谜。虽然我是女孩子，但我拥有着男生般勇敢的性格，妈妈，给我去探探险吧!

我真爱看这本书!

Regardless of is good beautiful Asmelada ，or has the ugly semblance， Cacimodo with one pure mind， they represent the great amount the lower level populace which suppresses； Perhaps is sinister Coloud， he is appears by the theocracy face， all load bearing one kind of authors ponder.The author in this work， for with the clown， was beautifully friendly and wickedly does the best annotation， or take above three people as the example， the rebel Asmelada has the beautiful semblance and the chaste good mind， as well as pitiful destiny， but Cacimodo， he withstood destiny deceive nicely， the innermost feelings is his misery is graver， but Coloud maintained the benighted social rights and interests， he had brutally. Void mind and evil passion. Good person physique hateful， but the evil person actually says the appearance shore however， bright set off， social unfair manifest.

But the article result also is when the opposition society until criticism： All beautiful is good all swallows by the might and the evil， the lower level peoples weak strength in under the king power rule， in the benighted society， only can be reduced to ashes. Another the question which is worth pondering is： Who is the hero？ Asmelada or Cacimodo？ I think all is not， but is in the article by the Louis 11 rank smell of blood suppression rather for sacreficed the populace gate， Asmelada with Cacimodo is not in them the representative， Asmelada is loves with the beautiful symbol， Cacimodo not many represents is unfortunate and the pain. But they， all suffer a tragic middle ages ignorant evil forces devastate， one each one painful soul is bleeding， flows the tear. Merely is Notre Dame cathedrals above engraves " the destiny "？ They are in middle ages France， despotism sacrificial victim.

The entire story rich tragic color， the plot intense is moving， exciting. Author Hugo through " Notre Dame cathedral " this story， but also disclosed at that time the dark societys essence to the people. This fascinating story likes that Ccimodo clocks sound equally shocks several generation of readers minds.

"The Little Prince" is a clear book, as clear as the water. It’s writes for adults, teenagers and children. It is a book about life and the lives of the fable. As the book said, the water on the heart is beneficial. And "Little Prince" can make people feel warm and fresh.

The story is about a boy. He lives on a small planet. He is the only person of the planet. He is a lonely prince. Fortunately, a beautiful rose came in his life. They loved each other. But a little argument separated them. He left the planet which he lives, starts traveling. He went to many planets and met many different people. He likes to watch the sunset when he was sad. He found that people wanted happiness, but always pushed away happiness rudely.

At last, he understood how to love each other. Love and life is a very important thing. He is very regret. He wanted to return to the planet which he lives. But he didn’t know the road. He chose to drank snake venom end his life because he thought it will be able to cast off his bulky body to go back.

Every time, when I read "The Little Prince", I always moved about it. In real life, we often busy in the whole day, such as a fly without soul. The passage of time, childhood away, we grew up and took away a lot of memories, but we also have an oasis in the heart.

Because ‘The Little Prince’ story, we live in quiet, the heart has a hope and love, have touched on the responsibility of the life.
