I am pleased to invite you to a luncheon, to be held by the Monterey Institute of International Studies on October 12, 2006 at noon, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the death of General Stilwell and in honor of his daughter, Mrs. Nancy Stilwell Easterbrook. Mrs. Easterbrook was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Monterey Institute and founder of the Stilwell Scholarship, which is dedicated to supporting students from China.

For many years until she passed away, Nancy had served as a goodwill ambassador of the American people who made unremitting efforts to promote exchanges between the United States and China. The Stilwell Scholarship she founded helps support deserving students from China who have come to the Monterey Institute to pursue professional degrees in translation and interpretation, international policy studies, language teaching and business management.

When we are chatting with our friends happily, suddenly if we are talking

about the awkward topic, we need to do something to change this situation, what

I was wondering what was in such a nice package until I carefully opened it and found that you sent me an attractive present for my birthday. Again it is thoughtful of you to send me the present on my birthday. Yesterday evening my colleagues held a birthday party for me, including John Liu---I think you can remember---a nice tall boy, who invited you and I to his birthday last October. 、my favorite city is ShanghaiShanghai is Chinas most comprehensive industrial and commercial city, ranking the first in population and population density. 格尺与皮尺是一对很要好的朋友，但是，最近他们却总是因为谁的本领大发生争吵。

在成长的道路上，有喜悦.难过.成功.失败……而我这个活泼开朗的女孩却总是在困难面前低头，久而久之，也养成了习惯，“逃避困难”这个标签就一直跟随着我，使我增添了不少烦恼

这个暑假，我看了《拥抱文明，幸福成长》这本书，深有感慨，发现书中的那个鞋匠和我有着相似的影子。他原来是一家大饭店的经理，后来因为社会自由竞争的缘故，变成了一个小鞋匠，开始自暴自弃起来。而我，就因为一次比赛失败后，便认为自己的能力变差了，觉得自己太失败了，渐渐的，也有了懒惰的习惯。

刚开始时，我也没太在意，觉得也没什么大不了的，谁在挫折面前也会有退缩的时候。所以，在每次困难面前我总是选择退缩。

可后来的一件事，让我恍然大悟，明白了遇到挫折时应该冷静分析，不应该退缩。那一次，学校举办了“我手绘我心”的绘画活动，老师选了我和另外两个同学参加比赛。回到家后，我也积极查找相关的资料，但还是不知道该如何下手，我在草稿纸上画了几种形式，但没有一种是我满意的，我冥思苦想，但还是没有一点思绪，心想：这也太难画了吧，反正我也不会画，哼！一怒之下，便扔下画笔，去看电视了。

不一会儿便傍晚四点了，妈妈下班回到家后，见我在看电视，便问道：“作业有没有写好了？画儿画好了没？”“作业是做好了，但画儿还没画好呢，你放心好了，明天我一定画好！”我信誓旦旦的答道。妈妈也没多说什么，便去做饭了。

接下来的几天里，我总是这样敷衍妈妈，也不画画。

转眼到了星期日，我还是义无反顾的去看电视了。

晚上，妈妈回到家后，开门便问我：“石冰雁，画有没有画好了？”我立马关掉电视机，小声的回答道：“还没呢，因为我不知道该画什么，所以还没画呢。”谁知还是被耳尖的妈妈听见了，她立刻阳转暴雨，厉声呵斥道：“为什么还没画好？前几天怎么跟我保证的？啊？你看看你现在这副样子，一碰到困难就退缩，你自己好好反省反省吧！”说完，妈妈便去做饭了。

我的心就好像被针扎了一下，忽然发现自己原来一直都在逃避困难，我的脚情不自禁的向书房走去，我再次看着那画纸，心里有说不出的情绪。过了一会，我想了想妈妈说的话，便重新开始绘画。我先想好自己要画什么风格，再开始构图，没过多久，一幅美丽的图画便“出世”了。不用说，这次精心设计的图画肯定得了奖。

通过这件事，我下定决心一定要做个像爱迪生这样的人，面对困难，乐观面对，永不退缩。是的，人生中的挫折并不可怕，就看我们怎样去对待它。就像路在脚下，就看自己怎么走一样。找到正确的方法，并从中得到启示，便会使我们的人生走得一帆风顺。

从今以后，当我再次遇到困难时，我一定会冷静分析，从客观.主观.目标.环境.条件等方面，找出方法，采取有效的措施，对待挫折要保持自信和乐观的态度，也要有一颗平常心，平静的看待挫折。

我一定要把扔掉这“逃避困难”的标签，踢开那绊脚石，使我的幸福之路上洒满阳光，让我勇往直前，去拥抱绚烂多姿的明天。

寒假要结束了，大家肯定都是在赶寒假作业赶得满头大汗，臭汗淋漓。遐想如果时间可以永远停在寒假期间那该有多好呢！想着想着突然听到一声尖叫道：“李心婷，不要在做白日梦了，快点写你的寒假作业吧！时间是不等人的！”才依依不舍的挥别了寒假。总觉得今年的寒假如昙花一现，一下子就又到了开了。但往好处想其实也不错！可以看到三个礼拜没见的知心好友呢！而且多读一些好书，心的一年前进了一大步了。

First, we have four classes in the morning and three in the afternoon. We have to get to school before 7:30 because we have a morning class.

Second, I like my school life because teachers and my classmates are friendly and helpful. We also have lots of after-school activies.

Third, our school environment is very beautiful, the teachers all can make their lesson interesting and instructive. So I like my school life very much.
