The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers and lakes. Realizing that the country was now in the hands of evil and corrupt officials, Qu grabbed a large stone and leapt into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month. Nearby fishermen rushed over to try and save him but were unable to even recover his body. Thereafter, the state declined and was eventually conquered by the State of Qin.

The people of Chu who mourned the death of Qu threw rice into the river to feed his ghost every year on the fifth day of the fifth month. But one year, the spirit of Qu appeared and told the mourners that a hugereptile(爬行动物)in the river had stolen the rice. The spirit then advised them to wrap the rice in silk and bind it with five different-colored threads before tossing it into the river.

During the Duanwu Festival, a glutinous rice pudding called zong zi is eaten to symbolize the rice offerings to Qu. 早上，我吃过早饭，妈妈和奶奶带我出去玩。一路上，我嘻嘻哈哈、蹦蹦跳跳地走在前面,别提有多开心了。不知怎么的,我发现今天大街上有好多人,他们都买了树枝拿在手里。我很奇怪准备问妈妈，却发现妈妈和奶奶手里也各拿着一捆树枝，就连忙跑过去问：“妈妈你们买树枝干啥?啊!真香!”妈妈笑着说：“傻孩子，这是‘艾枝’。艾枝可以驱蚊子和苍蝇，还可以避邪呢!我们把艾枝挂在自己家的门上、窗户上，不是很好吗?”我点点头。

中午，我们家的饭菜有丰盛又香甜，除了家常菜外,还有漂亮的三角粽子、鸡蛋和鸭蛋，香气扑鼻。我立刻拿起一个较大的粽子，剥开粽叶，津津有味地吃着白嫩的糯米，好吃极了!

爷爷告诉我，端午节吃粽子是为了纪念爱国诗人屈原的爱国精神及崇高人格。其实这个我已经知道了,嘻嘻……

每年的五月初五是端午节，这是中国的传统节日，让我说给你听听吧！

春秋战国时期，楚国大夫屈原是一位很有能力的人。有一年秦国攻打楚国，把楚国的国王楚怀王抓走了。楚怀王的儿子楚顷襄王即位，他不想救他爸爸，因为他爸爸回来以后他就当不了国王了，所以他就找个借口说：“秦国太强大了，咱们还是别惹他的好！”

屈原对楚顷襄王说：我们可以联合齐国，共同去抗击秦国。

当时有一个奸臣，怕屈原得到国王的信任，就向国王说了屈原很多的坏话。楚君襄王听了这位奸臣的谗言，把屈原的官罢了，还把屈原流放到沅水、湘江一带。

公元前278年，秦国功进楚国的都城，楚国灭亡。屈原居然听到这个消息，心里很伤心。抱着石头投江自杀了。

从此，每年的这一天，人们更会用各种方式，开展各种活动，来纪念屈原。如包粽子、竞龙舟、喝雄黄酒。

这就是端午节的由来。
