奶奶说是这样的：“端午节吃粽子的传统风俗与纪念屈原有关。传说屈原投江后洹罗江附近的渔民闻讯立即驾渔舟赶来抢救。为了尽快救到屈原的遗体，大家有的用木板、扁担当浆片，几个人划着一只船，争先恐后，沿江而下到洞庭湖，一直没有找到。这里的渔民耽心屈原的遗体被鱼吃掉，就用竹简装米丢在水里，让鱼去吃，免得伤害他。东汉初年（公元1世纪）长沙有个叫区回的人，白天睡觉，梦见屈原对他说：“听说你要来祭我，我很感谢你。

可是每年大家投在水中的祭米，都给蛟龙抢吃了，希望你用楝树叶把桶塞好，外面用五彩丝线缠起来，因为蛟龙怕这些东西，区回就照他的话去做。这就是五月五日——端午节家家户户都包粽子的由来，据萧梁时吴均（续齐谐记）说：“世人作粽，并带五彩丝及楝叶，皆汩之遗风也。”
